just ignore the fact that it’s mid-february if you have to, i’m going to write about christmas…
this year, due to the fact that i seemed abnormally surrounded by football fans (or maybe this is just the first year i listened while they talked and watched with them? anyway…), so i decided on team scarves for everyone. everyone being my friends jason and reggie and my pops. it was still a helluva lotta yarnin, and since i taught myself a few new tricks this year, i thought it might just warrant a (so very horribly late) blog…
humble beginnings: kansas city chiefs scarf
i sketched the logo out and traced it to graph paper…
…and then stitched it onto the finished, striped scarf, needlepoint-style (at the very last minute, naturally…)
he seems pleased 😉
in the background would be the sports bar where i had many a boozy breakfast during my first ever football season of paying attention.

next, we have the indianapolis colts scarf, which is not very exciting considering the shit season they played this year (poor colts…), but i did something i’ve never done before: i crocheted a pattern (in this case, a horseshoe) right into the fabric of the scarf. it involved many, many ends and knots and bits to weave in later, but it was totally worth it.
this is how i kept track of my stitches- graph paper is the bread and butter of just about all my best craft undertakings ive undertaken in my memory…
this is the best after-photo i have… unfortunately the lucky recipient is a wee bit camera shy…
and heres my dad. hes a baseball man, so he got a detroit tigers set. these were super easy, i just used the blue size knifty knitter loom for the scarf and fastened it flat with the fringe (giving it a pleasent girth and cooshiness) and the giant purple one for the big floppy hat. the pompom i made on the little peach mini loom and it turned out great! seriously, i made these in like a day. love those looms!
i also tried my hand at a little doggie sweater, but im not overly pleased with the way it turned out. too tight around the middle, i think, and i would have liked to add sleeves. the knitting looms are great for fast and simple, but i would really like to learn to knit for realsies so i have a little more flexibility when it comes to, say, dog sweater sizes…
I hope everyone had a lovely christmas and all you crafters had as much fun with your christmas list as i did!
